On the 9th of Arpil 1941 the Germans take over Thessaloniki. Eleven days after, Greece, victorious in the war with Italy, but defeated by Germany, surrenders. The triple occupation by Germans, Italians and Bulgarians begins. Our main character, Giorgis Abatzis, the Thessaloniki residents and all the Greeks will need to adapt to a life full of prohibitions and deprivations. During the 42 months that the occupation will last in the city, some will find the opportunity to get rich, while others will sell everything to survive.
