This novel deals with obsession. It is the story of a solitary man and his private, hermetic world constructed from the sense of touch. His world is experienced through his hands and defined through shapes. The novel explores the single-dimensional reality of a monomaniac, and the perceptions that concomitantly define and respond to it. The main character keeps a diary and has a friendship with a mute young man, who communicates solely through sign language. The underlying, philosophical foundation of this work is an exploration of aesthetics.
