Alfonso Aldebaran, a middle-aged, completely respectable man, unmarried, an employee for thirty consecutive years in the Ministry of Finance, develops, overnight, an inexplicable, uncontrollable, religious-like adoration for the buttocks of his young maid, Anna.
But what was the special significance, the dark truth he discovered there? Why did Anna’s ass manage to awaken his soul from its slumber and illuminate it with a ray of joy? This was a question to which he failed to provide a satisfactory answer, but his weakness was not irrational but necessary, as every object of worship encloses a mystery on which the feeling of devotion it inspires is based and without which it would be impossible for it to exist and be understood as such; it is a mystery that does not seek to be solved but to remain as it is and which reflects something of the riddle of the worshipper himself.
