Pavlos Matesis (1933-2013) was a major classic Greek novelist and playwright. His famous novel The Daughter, an international bestseller in nine languages, has sold over 150,000 in Greece, and will soon be made into a film by Emir Kusturica. Pavlos Matesis was born in Divri, but soon moved and lived to Athens. He won several awards both for his plays and fiction that have been translated in several languages.
