Desa Mantzari

Desa was born in 1984 and studied mathematics. She is a published author from Greece who writes children’s fiction. Mostly influenced by the socio-political events in her country, she sets her stories in imaginary worlds seen through diverse perspectives, weaving in fairy-dust, humour, action and mystery. At the heart of her work lie themes of equality, diversity, courage, and justice.  Most of her books have received various awards in Greece or Cyprus, and she retains full rights, cleared by the publisher for translations and adaptations. In 2024 she was additionally shortlisted for the PEN Greece Awards as Best Female Author.  She has lived in various cities in Greece, in Southampton, UK, and in New York City, USA. She prefers dogs to cats, and likes travelling, drawing, and kung fu. For the past few months, she is learning how to be a mom.
