Spyros, an English Literature scholar visits Krakow to give a lecture on the use of the raven as a symbol of loss in literature. Bird references will follow him through his trip, as he meets Marianna, a young actor with a mysterious tattoo of a black bird flapping its winds on her hip. A desirous love affair will unravel. In Maroutsou’s triptych, Spyros’s point of view is succeeded by Marianna’s view over their coming together.
A strange revelation about Marianna’s origins will cause conflict and disequilibrium. All these, leading to the final part of the triptych, where all truths overturn, revealing the beast-like angles of the characters.

“There is no doubt that with Beastlike Maroutsou takes her writing a step forward, creating an intricate work with the same materials she used in her previous books: multilayered intertextuality, daring language and a spoon-full of sexual fantasy, resulting in a reflection on the function of art itself.” ‒ Charalambos Giannakopoulos.
