The language box invites the reader   to engage with the problems of writing. It is common ground, a schema onto which questions relating to the work of literature, the author and his labours can be placed.

Inside The language box, a multivalent essay balances criticism and theory without tipping either way. It does not approach literary texts ‘from without’, but nor does it mythologize the act of writing through the revelation of some esoteric, mystic process.
